Civil War Veteran, 92, Served with New York Cavalry
Rome, N.Y., April 4, - Henry John Fike, one of Rome’s two surviving Civil War veterans, died in his home last night, after a brief illness. He was 92 years old.
A native of Germany, Mr. Fike came to this country as a child. While working as an Erie Canal boatman, he enlisted in the Twelfth New York Cavalry and saw nine months of active service. He attended the Blue and Gray reunion at the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg last July.
He was born IN Germany and when he came to this country, he began working as a Erie Canal boatman at the same time that he decided to enlist in the Twelfth New York Calvary and saw 9 months of active service. He attended the blue and gray reunion at the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg last July(being 1939)

HENRY FIKE VETERAN IS BURIED WITH FULL HONORS
Civil War Soldier's Rites at Churchville
Henry J. Fike, 92, this city who saw nine months of active service in the Civil War as a member of the 12th New York Cavalry, was buried today at Churchville with full military honors. Mr. Fike's death Monday left Joseph Chisam, 94, this city's only remaining Civil War veteran and reduced the ranks of Skillin Post 47, G. A. R., to Mr. Chisam and Herbert Patterson, 94, Camden.
Mr. Chisam is in good health but the rain made it inadvisable for him to attend the funeral of his comrade.
There was a prayer service at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. Fike's son, Charles, at 828 W. Dominick St., where the veteran died. The Rev. E. L. Tucker, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Churchville, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Ernest E. Heuer, pastor of St. John's E. L. Church, this city.
At 2:30 p.m. funeral rites were held at St. Peter's Church, Churchville, with Mr. Tucker in charge.
