Obituary of Eliphaz Shelton
"At his residence near Taylorsville,in the county of Patrick on the 16th ult. after a protracted and lingering illness, CAPT. ELIPHAZ SHELTON in the 86th year of his age.
The deceased defended bravely the liberties of his country during the revolutionary war and at the period the EXCITABLE tories so much disturbed the country, he shouldered his musket, and marching in the van, made every possible effort and exertion, both in bravery and skill, to immolate them.
Patriotism and an ardent devotion to the cause of his country were the first principles of his character. He who writes this last tribute of respect to Capt. Shelton knew him well and he knows that in the various characters of husband, father, master and neighbor no one was more indulgent, kind and hospitable.
A very large circle of relatives are remaining to grieve his dissolution."

Eliphaz' name found in N_____ Parish 1762
Note: Application with supporting documentation was made by my cousin Cheryl Marcene Bonnikson Franceschi and was given Dar Nat'l number 800229 and 822971
You may notice a discrepancy with the plaque and the birth year and the dates, but my cousin proved and sent her proof in to DAR and they were approved. Until otherwise proven these dates will stick. Cheryl was an avid Genealogist as am I and I am sure she knew that as she gave me a copy before she passed away with all of her proof of what she sent to be accepted in DAR.
Another note is that Eliphaz is linked to Nancy Ann Asher, this is not proven, you can check all of the Dar entries his wife is only listed as Ann no dates nothing and no proof other than he married Anne 1766 so please disregard the link, other than it could be a possibility, but to say this is his wife without proof. I cannot do that.
