Lena was born in Ionia Ks. to James Monroe & Nellie Estelle (Hauser) Workman. She graduated from High school there. Then she worked at the telephone office as an operator, and also worked in Dr. Poppen's office. A mutual friend introduced her to Clede C. Blacker and the rest is history. They were married on Nov. 19, 1930. at the ministers home, near where Clede lived in Brownscreek twp. They had 4 children-Joan Blacker(Waugh), James C. Blacker, Neita Blacker(Colin) & Peggy Selvidge). She was a farm wife, raising a big garden & hundreds of baby chickens every year, until they retired in 1958 & moved to Jewell City.
Lena had 5 brothers-Reggie Workman,Curtis Workman,Homer Workman, Gerald Workman & Harold Workman, and 4 sisters-Gertie Workman(Shellenberger), Nina Workman(Gibson), Grace Workman(Conger), Evelyn Workman(Bowman).

I love you MOM & miss you very much.We spent many special times together.It was wonderful that we only lived about 17 miles apart & could get together at least once a week, sometimes more.Also thank you for the many times you baby sat for us.
