Dewitt Clinton was born to James Wesley Blacker & Nancy Mariah (Archer) Blacker, at Dubuque,Iowa. His family moved, when he was a small boy, to Waukon, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On April 11, 1869, he married Charolette Ann Bowles. To this union 5 children were born. Frank Clinton Blacker, Nellie Eldora (Blacker) Topliff, Lemuel Wesley Blacker, Mary Louise (Blacker) Havice, Edith Arletta (Blacker) Riley.
The first 7 yrs. of their marriage, they lived in Iowa. In 1876 they joined a wagon train with the Bowles families & moved to Brownscreek township, Jewell county, KS. Here he lived for 50 years. The first summer, the grasshoppers ate their crops, so, Clint & his 2 brother-in-laws, Leonard C. & Charles W. Bowles, had to leave the women behind & go back to Iowa to pick corn, so to be able to make it through the winter.
