William "Bill" Bloodgood, 52, of Butte, died Nov. 11, 2009, in Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
He earned an associate degree in gunsmithing from Trinidad State Junior College, Trinidad, Colo., as well as a bachelor's degree in engineering from Montana Tech.
Bill worked at the Department of Corrections in Deer Lodge for 20 years and served as a deputy coroner in Silver Bow County for 14 years.
He was also a founding member of the Butte-Silver Bow Search and Recovery Scuba Team and served on the Advanced Crisis Team that assisted with recovery efforts in New York City, following 9-11, as well as in New Orleans after the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster. During the past 10 years, Bill has hosted foreign exchange students sponsored by the World Heritage Foreign Exchange Program.
He is survived by his mother, Joanne Behrer; stepfather, Arthur Behrer; brother, David Bloodgood, all of New Bern, N.C.; stepsister, Diane Bierwirth; and stepbrother, Jeff Behrer.
He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Bloodgood. He was "adopted" by the Elden Richards family of Bridger, where he spent his holidays.
Bill truly loved Montana. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Butte Comfort Inn.
