Robert Lee "Bob" Bice, formerly of Deer Lodge, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the home of his son, James Bice of Seabeck, Wash.
Bob was born to Eva and Jess Bice on May 7, 1928, in Hays, Kansas, the younger of two children. Jess and Eva raised Bob and his sister, Vivian, in Plainville, Kansas, and Hotchkiss, Colo. The Army drafted Bob in 1950 and he spent two years in Korea. Bob moved to Sheridan in 1962 and began ranching for Joe Tezack. He moved to Deer Lodge in 1968. After working many jobs, Bob went to work for Montana State Prison in 1972, retiring in 1991.
Through all the jobs in his life, there was one he loved the most - leading his band the "Vigilantes." Bob began playing guitar and singing in the Army. For the next 56 years, it was always his dream to play music every Friday and Saturday night somewhere in the middle of Montana.
Bob enjoyed sports and watching his favorite football team, the Denver Broncos. He also enjoyed eating at 4-B's and Scharf's restaurants and catching up on all the daily news from friends and family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vivian Krantwashl; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his daughter, Becky (Tim) Lohr of Coeur d'Alene; son, James (Ilona) Bice of Seabeck; daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Grissom of Dayton, Wyo.; son, Mark (Shannon) Bice of Kuna, Idaho; and other family members in Colorado and Utah.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Pioneer Room at the Broken Arrow in Deer Lodge. Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Harrison in Helena.
Cremation has been taken place at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Seabeck.
