Joseph Bart Kraus, Sr., of Gettysburg, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, in Westminster, MD.

Born June 13, 1936, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Mary Murphy Kraus and Frederick Kraus.

Before retiring, he was a Baltimore City Fire Fighter. He served in the Army and was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 2551 in McSherrystown, and Reese Community and Vol. Fire Company. He was also a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Bonneaville.

He is survived by his wife Carole J. Kraus and also surviving are sons and daughter-in-laws, Joseph Bart Kraus, Jr., of Pasadena, Michael F. and Verna Leigh Kraus of Gettysburg, Steven M. and Annmarie Kraus of Gettysburg; brother, Michael F. Kraus of Perry Hall; sister, Mary Meck of Baltimore; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers James P. Kraus and Frederick Kraus.

Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors.
