According to descriptive muster rolls from the Illinois State Archive, Daniel Gibson was residing in Pilot Twp., Vermilion Co., Illinois when he enlisted on Aug. 12, 1862. He was described as 30 years old, 6' tall with black hair, hazel eyes and a dark complexion, married (Polly Phillips, m. Nov. 2, 1854 in Vermilion Co., IL.) and a farmer He served in Co. I of the 125 Ill. Inf. as a sergeant until he died on Nov. 24, 1862 in Edgeville, Tenn (probably in battle), aged 30 yrs., 5 mos. & 17 days. The 1860 Vermilion County, Illinois Census shows he and Polly had at least two sons, George W. and Charles.
His marker reads "U.S.V" at the bottom.
