Born and reared in Port Arthur, Texas. Graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur in 1943. Served three years in WW2. Was in US Coast Guard, Pacific Theater, aboard a Sub Chaser. Attended Lamar Junior College, Beaumont, Texas, Baylor Univ., Waco, Texas, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Neb. Retired from the USAF as Major in 1969. Was a Tactical Intelligence Officer. Folliwing that retirement, went to Baylor Univ. and served on the Administrative/Staff, retiring in 1986. Married for sixty years to Virginia H. (Russell) Ming. Have two children, four grandchildren and four great grand children.

Major William "Bill" Ming, USAF Ret., passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels. He was born to Sterling Pace Ming and Ora Lee (Vandyke) Ming in Port Arthur, Texas on July 12, 1925. Bill proudly served in the US Coast Guard during WWII and later joined the US Air Force from which he retired after 23 years of service. He received his Associates Degree from Lamar College in Port Arthur and went on to futher his studies at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. At Baylor, Bill was enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program which led to his enlisting into the US Air Force before the Korean War. Bill went on to complete his Degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Bill was also employed for many years at Baylor University in the Library System in The Texas Collection. During his career Bill served many churches and chapels as a music director including: The First Baptist Church of Del Rio, Southern Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, Palm Street Church in Albany, Georgia and also Lakeside Baptist Church in New Braunfels. He also was sent as music director for rest & recreation for the US Air Force in Viet Nam. He was a member of First Baptist Church New Braunfels. Surviving him are his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Ming of New Braunfels; son, Robert S. Ming and wife Cynthia of Waco, TX; daughter, Ginni L. Smith of Bastrop, TX; grandsons, Robert Leslie Ming and wife Becky, Christopher William Ming and wife Lauren, Marcus Dennis Smith and Chad Berryman Smith and wife Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren.

Public visitation will begin 4:00 PM Monday at the Zoeller Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Salado Cemetery in Salado, Texas with Mickey Lenamon officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to: Texas Baptist Men, 5351 Catron, Dallas, Texas 75227 or to The Texas Collection at Baylor University, One Bear Place #97142, Waco , TX 76798-7142. Arrangements under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, TX.
