Helen Inez (Allen) Williams departed this life on July 28, 2010 at the age of 94 years. She was born in Post, TX on September 4, 1915 to the late Roy and Horace Allen. She and her family moved from Post to Jumbo, OK in 1916, returning back to Texas in a covered wagon and making their home in the New Lynn community in 1921. Five years later, her family made their home in the Lakeview Community a few miles away. She graduated from Meadow High School in 1933, then attended Texas Tech University, earning her Home Economic Education degree in 1938. She accepted a job with the Quitaque school system and taught there for one year before marrying M.J. Williams June 28, 1939. This allowed them money to begin their life together.
It was after her marriage to M.J. that they moved to Shallowater, TX. She became a homemaker, devoted wife and mother, raising their two children. She was always involved in their children's activities, including room mother every year and Cub Scout leader for several years. Helen was always a devout member of the United Methodist Church and a tireless worker in support of the church. She organized the Shallowater Meals on Wheels and served as president for 20 years. They delivered meals five days a week and never missed a day delivering meals in those 20 years. In honor of this remarkable service, the City of Shallowater proclaimed "Helen Williams Day" in February 29, 2004, marking the 20th anniversary for Meals on Wheels.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband; one daughter, Juanette Gentry and husband Kent of Bronte, TX; one son, Wenzel Williams and wife Janice of Ft. Worth, TX; one brother, Clyde Allen and wife Jennie Mae; one niece; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
