From her obituary, written by her son Bob:

Rosalie Powell Lindenstruth, age 85 of Hockessin, DE, born February 17, 1923, died February 18, 2008.

Daughter of Roselle and Dr. Samuel Robert Watson, she was born in Henderson, NC. She graduated from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC-Greensboro) in February 1944 and married Peter R. Powell of Pittsboro, NC in April 1944. They had three children Peter (Jr.), Bob and Melissa. Her husband Peter predeceased her; dying in 1987 at age 64.

Rosalie worked at the Jackson Lab of the Chambers Works, DuPont, for 3 years in the 1940s prior to the birth of her first child. In 1962 she began teaching High School English at Penns Grove High School. Rosalie continued to teach for 16 years and served as chair of the English Department for several years before retiring. Rosalie also directed the high school plays for many years at PGHS. She was an active member of the Church of Our Merciful Saviour in Penns Grove, NJ from 1944 to 1989. While a parishioner she sang in the choir, served on the altar guild, vestry, and as a lay reader and chalice bearer.

Her other community affairs included serving on the board of the Penns Grove/Carney's Point Library, driving for Meals on Wheels and volunteering as a Friendly Visitor. Rosalie was an avid outdoors person. Her childhood home included a tennis court and she played on the High School Team. She continued to play tennis as an adult. She took up Cross Country Skiing at the age of 50. She began hiking in the Wilmington Trail Club in 1977 and participated in hikes in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania as well as foreign hikes in Austria, France and Italy. She hiked across Delaware twice.

Rosalie married John Hannell in 1989 and moved to Westminster in Wilmington where they continued hiking, tennis and skiing. They attended Elderhostels in Maine and Vermont. They joined St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Duncan Road. John died in 1992. While a widow she attended 50 Elderhostels and met and made many friends when she traveled.

In September 2000, Rosalie and Albert Lindenstruth were married in Avalon, NJ by her son Peter, an Episcopal priest, who had also married her to John Hannell and presided over memorial services for both his father and John Hannell, as well as the wedding of his sister and brother. He was also the celebrant for his mother's services.

Rosalie and Al traveled far and wide including a trip to Australia, several trips to Europe as well as Canada and throughout the US and Caribbean. They moved to Cokesbury Village in 2003. They played duplicate bridge regularly at Talleyville and went to tournaments near and far. They chased gold points for a number of years. Rosalie had spent her summers at her cottage in Townsends Inlet, NJ since 1968.

Rosalie is survived by her husband Al, her three children, their spouses, Barbara Powell, Lisa Powell and James Town, seven grandchildren, four stepchildren and several stepgrandchildren.
