CHARLESTON, Ill. - Ruth Phillips Brehm, 100, died May 10, 2007, at Lakewood Village, Charleston, Ill.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery with John Hamm officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service Friday at Larrison Mortuary.
She was born Jan. 13, 1907, at Iuka, the daughter of Simeon Sylvester "S.S." and Minnie Gertrude Doan Phillips. She attended Iuka Grade School and Pratt High School. She worked at the Pratt Medical Clinic and at Deluxe Tailors and Dry Cleaners.
She became a farm wife when she married Harold Binder Brehm June 17, 1928. They lived first in the Fairview community south of Pratt and moved to the Glendale community in April 1937. In August 1967 they moved back to the Fairview community where they purchased a house south of Pratt along U.S. 281. She and her husband owned and farmed land in Pratt and Hamilton counties.
During World War II she was an American Red Cross Grey Lady at the Pratt Air Base. Since 1963 she had worked on her family genealogy and for a number of years had answered the Pratt Public Library's genealogical inquiries. She was a volunteer with the Kansas Genealogical Society, Dodge City, in the late 1960s and 1970s, where she helped compile records.
She was a charter member of the Illinois State Genealogical Society and a member of the Indiana Genealogical Society, Griggsville Genealogical Society, Pike County, Ill., Kansas Genealogical Society, Ohio State Genealogical Society - Hamilton County Chapter, the National Genealogical Society and a life member of the Doane Family International Association.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and had been a member of Farm Bureau clubs and Mother's Study Club at Pratt.
Survivors include: a daughter, Barbara Jane and husband, Dr. James W. Krehbiel, Charleston, Ill.; three grandchildren, James "Jim" Krehbiel and wife Stacy Lemke, Delaware, Ohio, Mark Krehbiel and wife Carla, Revere, Mo., and Elizabeth Kutzko, Las Cruces, N.M.; a brother, Dean Phillips and wife Wilma, Kearny, Neb., 18 nephews; six nieces; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Brehm, Pratt.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 10, 1977; six brothers, Frank, Merle, Donald, Richard, Delbert and Carl Phillips; and four sisters, Mary Stout, Gladys Hodson, Edna Topham and Maxine Sallee.
