Gerald L. Tye, 82, passed away April 23, 2008, at a local nursing facility. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Terry Wilkerson officiating.
Gerald was born in Waco, Texas, to Henry F. and Lila E. (McCune) Tye. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and became an aircraft mechanic. He served during World War II in the Marshall Island Operation and Asiatic Pacific Raids. After returning home, Gerald worked for the railroad as an engineer. He then worked as a bookbinder and ruler for Waco Printing, Hill Printing and Barnett Printing companies. He eventually owned and operated Quality Printing and Ruling. Gerald loved trains and enjoyed operating the miniature train rides in Cameron Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alline (Williams) Tye; one sister; and four brothers.
Survivors include his son, Randy Tye and wife, Connie, of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Tye and Kevin Tye, both of Spring, Texas, and Mandi Belmer and husband, Tim, of Round Rock; sister, Melva Smallwood, of Bellmead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
