Coach Ray McKibbin was the best thing to happen for Avon High School football. He took a fledgling program and turned it into a success. Avon had many winning seasons under his capable leadership. He also taught Junior US History. His students liked him. His football players loved him. He died on the Class of 74's graduation day. I will never forget hearing the news and seeing the tears shed by those young men for their coach.
Avon High School started a Hall of Fame in 2002. In the fall of 2006, Ray McKibbin's name was added to the Hall of Fame. These remarks are from their website:
"Ray McKibbin inherited a fledgling varsity football program at Avon in 1966. The sport had struggled during its first five years, but McKibbin brought on a winning tradition with a 7-2 squad that year that defeated Brownsburg for the first time. He established both the wrestling and FCA programs during a short but memorable tenure that ended with his passing in the fall of 1973."
