His obituary from the July 29, 1948 Friday Caller (Plainfield, Indiana):

Final rites will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Hampton mortuary for Sgt Noble C. "Red" Long, whose body recently arrived in the United States from overseas. Conducting the service will be the Rev Clarence Barr with the American Legion and VFW according him full military honors. Burial will be in Maple Hill. Sgt Long, 22 years of age, was killed in Europe in April 1944 [sic]. He had enlisted two years previously and served overseas with the 10th Armored Division of the famous Third Army. He was a graduate of Avon High School and was employed by Stark-Wetzel Company in Indianapolis when he entered the service. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Long; four sisters, Mrs. Stanley Pickett, Mrs. Everett Dickey, Mrs. Charles Thweatt and Miss Ruth Ann Long; three brothers, Vernon W. "Jack" Long, Clancy Long, and Richard Long; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Long.
