Marion was born to John Ferguson and Margaret McMurdo who were not married. John was the owner of a coal mine near Lesmahagow and was a very wealthy man. Marion spent her early years in Muirkirk living with her mother & grandparents, George McMurdo, a coal miner, & Mary Thompson. Her mother later married James Baird and lived in Cumnock. Marion was a servant prior to her marriage to Thomas Frame in 1857.
She and Thomas had 13 children in all and moved from Muirkirk to Howden, Yorkshire to Nova Scotia to Lenore, Manitoba. Her first child was born in Muirkirk, twin girls were born in Howden and the rest in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. It couldn't have been an easy life for anyone given the hardships of the 19th century. They seem to have been a close family and many members were very musical. Marion in buried with her husband in Breadalbane Cemetery, Lenore, which is also the resting place of numerous children and grandchildren. The cemetery was donated by Thomas & Marion from a parcel of their farm when their son William died.
