Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Shaffer Allen, the daughter of Clyde and Edith Wray Shaffer, was born in Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa, on September 4, 1914. When she departed this earthly life, while a patient in Madison County Memorial hospital at Winterset, she had reached the age of 52 years, 1 month and 26 days on October 30, 1966. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Hazel, and a grandson, Roderick Kent Allen.
Mrs. Allen spent most of her life in Madison county, Iowa, with the exception of a short period in Minnesota while a small girl and a brief time following her marriage.
On October 31, 1936, at Maryville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Frank O. Allen. To this union two children were born: Curtis Clyde Allen of Earlham, Iowa and Laura Marie (Mrs. Larry Watts) of Waukee.
In addition to her husband and children, Mrs. Allen is survived by one grandson, Bradley Craig Allen, one granddaughter Deborah Sue Watts, a half-sister Edith (Mrs. Henry Kenoyer) of Madrid, her step-mother Mrs. Catherine Shaffer of Winterset, two step-sisters – Helen (Mrs. Cecil Clark) of Winterset, and Patricia (Mrs. Carl Hedrick) of Des Moines, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Allen had been a member of the Early Chapel Christian church, and had transferred her membership to the West Star Methodist church near Winterset where she was also a member of the WSCS.
