Doctor Anderson was a volunteer physician at Harrisburg in Captain Splane's company, which had been left at the upper encampment under the command of Maj. Robert McNutt to care for the ill and wounded. After the victory at San Jacinto, Gen. Edward Burleson and others offered to obtain Thomas a compensation from the Texas government, he refused to receive any reward for his services.
