He attended the Whigville and Oxford schools, and when still a young man started teaching at North Oxford. Later he taught at the National School and for several years was principal at Leonard.
He was married to Jennie D. Lewis July 1, 1893.
Held Many Positions
In 1902 he moved from Leonard to Oxford, when he was elected to the office of county drain commissioner, a post he held for 17 years. In 1920 he was elected sheriff, serving two terms and for the past seven years has been chief probation officer of the county, although his health has interfered with the usual efficient dispatch of his duties during the past year.
He is survived by his widow; a brother William at Dearborn, and two sisters, Mrs. Della Brigham and Mrs. Alice Stockdale of Chicago. He is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces.
He was a member of the Oxford Congregational Church and prominent in fraternal organizations, being a Mason, Knights of Pythias, Shriner, Eastern Star and a Knight Templar.
