World War II veteran Dewey "Dude" Baker, WANETTE, died Wednesday in a Norman Hospital. He was 87.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in WANETTE with the Rev. Sherman Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be at WANETTE Cemetery under the direction of Little's Funeral Home in Purcell.
Baker was born March 19, 1911, to Dutch and Alice Baker. He was reared in the Maxwell and Ada areas, and entered the U.S. Army in 1942. Baker served in World War II and was discharged in 1945.
He was a ranch foreman and worked in construction in the WANETTE area for several years. He married Gracie Viola Lam on May 14, 1975, and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in WANETTE.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Baker of the home; a son, Bob Baker of Sacramento, Calif.; two stepsons and their wives, Jimmy and Theda Plumley of Euless, Texas, Jerry and Wanda Plumley of WANETTE; a stepdaughter, Joyce Davis of Shawnee; a sister, Essie Walker of Vanoss; a sister-in-law, Lucille Baker of Lexington; four grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bud, Roy and Bill; four sisters, Maude, Cordie, Alvie and Olvie.
