Daniel Butterfoss was born 09 Jul 1742 in Hunterdon Co., NJ, to Andrew Butterfoss (1720-1760) and Anna Moore (1726-1790.) Daniel married Esther (Hester) Ent (1758-1846) in 1772 in New Jersey. To this marriage 13 children were born: Jacob 1774, Anna 1776, Susanna 1778, Elizabeth 1780, Mary 1783, Catherine 1785, Esther 1788, Sarah 1790, Daniel 1793, Andrew 1795, Valentine Ent 1798, Rebecca 1801, Sabilla 1804.

Daniel Butterfoss' service during the American Revolution: 1) On 23 June 1780, a two-horse team was impressed into service, 2) he drew one bushel of meal for the two-horse team, 3) In 1781, entered service of the state of New Jersey in Hunterdon County for three months, 4) On 22 March 1780, received payment of $1,130.00 from Quarter Master General (Q.M.G.)
