Born in Castellazzo Bormida, Province of Alessandria, Italy, Stefano Angeleri known as "Il Gabbiano", was a famous Italian midfielder football player and coach.
Earning the nickmane "Gabbiano" following his habit of running with his arms streched out during football games, Angeleri played in 317 games for Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio, 281 of which in Serie A.
The first team he played for was Oratorio Ovada, which was followed by Acqui in 1940, Voghera in '45, Juventus in '49, and finally Atalanta in 1949, for whom he played until 1960.
Upon concluding his career as a football player, Stefano managed as a coach the teams of Atalanta, Parma, Modena, Seregno, Cremonese, Casale, Pergocrema, Sant'Angelo, Piacenza, and Lecco between 1961 and 1986.
Angeleri passed away in Bergamo, where he resided in his later years, on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, aged 85. His Funeral Mass was held at the Borgo Santa Caterina Church on Thursday, February 2.
