Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in Company H, 111th Illinois Volunteer Infantry on September 18, 1862. He served until he was killed in action during the July 22, 1864 Battle of Atlanta, a fight that saw his regiment lose 20 killed, 45 wounded and 80 missing.
He was eventually interred in the Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, Georgia in Section E, Site 6582. His family erected a cenotaph for him in their family plot in the Old Bethel Cemetery, Iuka, Illinois.
