Pioneer Gateway Stockman Dies at Pendleton
Gottfried Kampfer, pioneer Gateway stockman, died in a hospital in Pendleton Wednesday, according to word received in Madras that day.
The Gateway man was nearly 80, was born in Switzerland. He came to the United States as a young man and settled in the Gateway area in the 1890's. He had been a stockraiser on an extensive scale, but in the late years failing health forced him to curtail his activities.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Leo Hatch, who lives on Trout Creek, and another daughter in Portland.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced Thursday morning.

Funeral Services Held for Gateway Man
Final services for Gottfried Kampfer, pioneer Gateway stockman, were held Saturday, July 5, at the Gateway Baptist Church, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Wm. Travis of the Madras Baptist Church officiating.
Interment was on the Kampfer farm at the family cemetery, where he is buried next to his wife.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Hatch, Gateway; Mrs. Emma Taylor, Bend; and Mrs. Lydia Vanderviugt of Portland; a brother, Albert Kampfer of Gateway, and a brother-in-law, Emil Blatter of Gateway.
