ELIJAH M. BARNETT
Elijah M. Barnett, who died at his home in Haystack, April 11, at the age of 78 years, was born March 14, 1836, in Shelby Co. Ohio. He moved to Illinois in 1831, where he was married to Miss Elanor Furby in 1850. Three years later he and his family moved to Oregon, settling on a donation land claim in Linn Co. where he lived until 1882. At that time, he and his family moved to the Haystack country, where he resided until his death. Deceased was a member of the Christian Church for many years. A widow and one son, David, survive him; two daughters and one son having died several years ago.
"Uncle Lize", as he was known, will be missed by all who knew him, and Aunt Ellen and son David have the sympathy of their many friends.

Elijah M. Barnett was an early settler in the Haystack - Lamonta area. His family lived in Iowa and then Missouri, coming to The Dalles and then to this region in 1882. He started the Haystack post office in 1890.|
