Shawnee resident Roy Jack Young died Tuesday at his home. He was 85.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev Janie Kirt Morris and Dr. Kevin Mosley officiating.
Young was born Aug 8, 1913, in Pauls Valley to William Newton and Vieteria (Villines) Young. He married Gladyce Christine Martin in 1934 in Seminole.
He attended Maud Scholls and worked as an oil jiber with Cities Service Oil Co. for 15 years and then worked for Vickers Oil Co. In 1965 he formed Young Oil Company which later became Young Distributing Inc.
Young was a charter member in the Maud Round-Up Club. He helped build the rodeo arena and served as president and secterary. He was also involved in th creation of "Teen Town" in Maud during the 1950's
He was entertainment director for the 614 Engr. Base Equipment Company during World War II. He was a staff Segarent and recived the Army of Occupation Medal, Germany, and the Victory Ribbon.
He also received the Good Conduct Medal in th United States Forces during the European Theater. He received an honorable discharge on July 11, 1946.
Young was a menber of the Baptist Temple Church, Oklahoma City for 23 years and served as the church treasurer for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife Gladyce, of the home; Daughter and son-n-law Jacqueline and Clifford"Kip" Roberts, Shawnee; son Steve Young and his fiancee Josine Bozeman , Moore. Four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister, Pauline Sleeper Dorsey, Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben and Walter Young; two sisters Gladys Irwin and Lora Jenkins.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society of Hospice in Shawnee.
