Robert Luther Wallace enlisted in Company B of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV on August 1, 1864, in Wedowee, Alabama, and was mustered in August 1, 1864, in Rome, Georgia. He was enrolled by Captain West for a period of 3 years. The Muster and Descriptive Roll recorded him as 16 years of age, 5'-8" tall, having a fair complexion, hazel eyes, sandy hair, born in Carroll County, Georgia, and a farmer by occupation.He died February 12, 1865, in the USA Hospital in Savannah, Georgia and originally buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah. He was later removed to Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina.
