Cpl Roosevelt Abraham, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Wilmington, NC.

Corporal Roosevelt Abraham Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, CPL Abraham served our country until August 7th, 1969 in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. It was reported that Roosevelt died from undetermined causes. His body was recovered. CPL Abraham is on panel 20W, line 105 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Corporal Abraham was born in Wilmington, NC on December 8, 1946. He served our country for less than a year.

Roosevelt was a quiet, gentle person. He worked in the Williston Senior High library as an assistant. I remember him being very studious. He wore glasses. He did not strike me as one who would go into the army, but I remember him being drafted. If anyone should not have gone to Vietnam, Roosevelt was the one. He simply was too nice, too gentle for combat. However, he bravely did what was asked of him and he made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. I am proud to have known him and I am sure one day I'll see him in heaven. God bless you Roosevelt and for one, I honor and cherish your memory. Edward J. Donaldson, 2LT US Army, 1971-1974.

Close friend and Not Forgotten. Abraham, you were like a brother to me. I think about you often, and it still makes me sad. I still remember clearly the day of that fateful patrol. You came up to me and asked me to mail a letter for you, because you didnt think you would be coming back. Well, i mailed it for you and i hope it got to where you wanted it to go. I want to thank you for being my friend, and to let you know that you are a hero. You will never be forgotten. GOD BLESS YOU. Your Friend, Steve Rudy.

Served with him in Vietnam. Why? Why did this happen. You carried my radio on the the patrol that took your life. I only knew you for a little while, but you made a positive impression. I still miss you to this day and wonder why you instead of me? Some things we will never know in this world, but I'm better for having known you for awhile. John Hollmann, Mesa AZ.

He is the Son of Roosevelt Abraham Sr of New Hanover County, Wilmington, NC.

He served with Alpha Company, 5th Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment, 198th Infantry Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
