From the Banner paper
The community was greatly shocked Sunday morning to hear that Mrs N. J. Southard, one of the pioneers of this locality, had passed away at the Greeley Hospital at about 8 o'clock, her death being due to a sudden and severe attack of pneumonia. While Mrs Southard has not been in the best of health for some time, she contracted a cold that grew worse until it was thought best to remove her to a hospital and this was done Friday. Her sudden death cast a gloom over the community and her husband, N. J. southard and her family are grief stricken at the sudden developments.
The funeral services were held at the undertaking parlors in Greely Thursday, and burial was also made at Greeley.
Elnora Short, wife of N. J. Southard, was born on July 10th 1872, at Buffalo, Missouri, and died at Greeley, Colorado, February 6th, 1938, at the age of 65 years and 5 months. The deceased was married to N. J. Southard, August 14, 1887. To this union seven children were born, five of whom are still living. Roy, a son, died in infancy and H. A. Southard met an accidental death last summer. Their surviving children are, O. M. Southard, Mrs C. R. Horn and Erving Southard, of Elgin, Oregon; Clarence Southard of Greeley, and Charles Southard of Kimball, Nebraska. She leaves 33 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
