Garland C. Murray , age 32, a welder, employed by Loffland Brothers Company of Tulsa, Okla. was fatally injured about 4 :30 Saturday afternoon while working at the property of the company a mile east of town. His injury was at the base of his head and was inflicted by a chain hook which broke while in use. Fellow workmen called the Branson ambulance from Flora and he was taken at once to the Flora Hospital in a vain effort to restore his life.
From the hospital the body was taken to the Branson Funeral home where it lay in state until Sunday night, when it was taken by ambulance to Centralia , from where it was sent by train to Star, Mississippi, his native town. Mrs. Murray and her sister, Mrs. Carl Bruce of Gladewater, Texas and his brother Elmer Murray, of Star, Mississippi, accompanied the body.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray came to Clay City in June and were residing in an apartment at the home of Mrs. Elzona Blacklidge. Their congenial disposition made them many friends here as was evidenced by the number of persons calling at their home here and at the funeral home, and by the floral offerings. Both had recently transferred their membership to Clay City Methodist church.
Brief services were held at the funeral home Sunday afternoon with the devotions and a talk by the Rev. H. Heyer, Methodist pastor. The hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "What a friend We have in Jesus", were sung by Mrs. Harold Holman , Mrs. Eva Pitner, Mrs. Everett, Lester, Mrs. Bethel Goodin and Rev. Heyer, with Mrs. Elzona Blacklidge, Pianist.
Besides his devoted wife, to whom he was married eight years ago, he lives four brothers, one sister and many other relatives who are expected to attend the last Rites.
His wife was the former Edna Basham.
