Belle Lydia French, better known as Lillie Bell, is the daughter of John Frederick French and Synthia Elizabeth (Pace) French. She was born November 28, 1881. She married John Wesley Baty 22/Mar/1896 at Alton, MO.
She is the mother of William Fletcher, Laura May, John Fred, Elmer Lee, Rosalee, Berta and a child that died in infancy.
She was of the Pentecostal faith; but if transportation were not available she attended the Baptist Church. She always went to church somewhere.
She helped her husband run the Baty Store at Rover, MO. She sold groceries, while John sold feed and pumped gas.
She had an outgoing personality and greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
After John passed away, Bell moved to Charleston, MO to live with her daughter. Bell died at Charleston April 27, 1970, She and John are buried at Jolliff Cemetery.

Mrs. Belle Baty, age 88, a resident of Rt. 1, Bertrand, passed away Monday, April 27 at the Chaffee General Hospital after an illness of one year. She was born November 28, 1881 in Oregon County, MO, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Pace French.
Mrs. Baty had lived in Mississippi County for the past 19 years.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Charleston. Her husband, John Baty, preceded her in death in February 1949.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Albin Dunkin of West Plains, MO and Mrs. Cecil Warren of rural Bertrand, MO; two sons, William Baty and John Baty, both of West Plains, MO; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
One son, Elmer, preceded her in death.
