Born the 2nd child of Jacob and Marian Wiltsie Reininga in Oak Park, Cook, IL. She graduated from Oak Park High School and attended Miami University in Oxford, OH for 2 years. Then she transferred to the University of Iowa where her older sister Ruth was an honor student. Jean graduated with a degree in early childhood education.
She met husband George Ray "Binc" Bawden, Jr. who was a law student there. He played golf for the university and ran a photography studio to help pay tuition. Binc graduated with his law degree and after their Oct 16, 1948 marriage in Oak Park Presbyterian Church, they came back to Davenport, Scott, IA to the Vale Apts formerly the grand Burtis House, a beautiful hotel, northeast corner of 4th and Pershing where dtr Carol was born and lived her first year. Then they bought a house at 2805 Jefferson where they had 3 more children in close succession.
Jean was a good tennis player since her childhood. She also volunteered for St. Luke's now Genesis East Hospital for many years and a volunteer driver for the Cancer Assn for over 20 years. She never worked after she was married. She made everyone feel like they were Number One, was very congenial, unselfish, thoughtful, and was known to keep a "scrubby Dutch clean house" - you could eat off the basement floor.
She died of heart congestion in Genesis West - Mercy Hospital.
