Born the 3rd child of Stephen Douglas and Mary Ella Woodward Bawden of Davenport.
Graduated from Davenport High School.
In 1894 he became a fire insurance adjustor and inspector with Western Adjustment and Inspection in Chicago, Cook, IL. He became branch mgr of the Cincinnati, OH office which covered a 5-state territory. He returned to Davenport 1905 where he assisted the family in various business affairs and served as vp and director of Valley Place Investment (grandparents' real estate business managed by uncles).
He never married and died in the family home of myocarditis on 1315 E. 11th St. He attended the Episcopal Church (Davenport or Rock Island, IL??).
Richard Ballard who worked for Ballard Drug Store on E. 2nd recalls Edward as a regular customer purchasing large quantities of morphine tablets. Also remembered that Edward spent a good deal of time at the police station and was made honorary Davenport policeman which entitled him to wear a silver star and carry nickel-plated revolver.
