Lysander Meeker, physician and surgeon, was born in Geauga County, Ohio, January 3, 1832 to Dr. Daniel Meeker and Lucy [Sprague] Meeker. He was raised and educated in La Porte, Indiana.
He attended two courses of medical lectures at Ann Arbor, Mich., two courses at Rush Medical College, Chicago, and graduated from the medical department of the Iowa University, at Keokuk, Iowa on February 20, 1857.
After his medical training he returned to LaPorte, Indiana. He was one and a quarter years surgeon of the l28th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War.
Upon leaving the service he returned to La Porte, Indiana where he remained until he opened an office in South Chicago during June, 1882. In 1856 he married Miss Cornelia V. Van Sieklen, of Cincinnati, Ohio.
