"Emporia Weekly Republican", Thursday, August 23, 1894; page 3, column 6. Death of J.G. Dryden

Joshua G. Dryden was born in Green county, Illinois, February 27th, 1840, and died in Emporia, Kansas, of chronic gastritis and congestion of the lungs, August 17, 1894, aged 54 years, 5 months and 21 days. August 15th, 1862, he with his brothers, J.P.D. Dryden and J.C. Dryden, enlisted in Company K, Ninety-first, Illinois infantry volunteers. He served until September, 1864 when he was discharged. During the year 1859 he was converted and joined the Baptist church of which he was a consisted member to the time of his death. He was married October 26th, 1867 to Miss Mary E. Moore. She died August 30th, 1884. He left three children surviving him, William, Eugene, and Maud. He has three brothers living, J.P.B. Dryden, living at Lakeside, west of this city; J.C. Dryden, at Eureka, Kan., and S.J. Dryden, at 18 South Market street. His remains were taken by his sons to Richwood, Green county, Illinois, to be interred beside his wife. The funeral services were conducted from his late residence, 14 West street, by Joseph F. Culver, chaplin, of P.B. Plumb Post 55.
