Born September 10, 1945, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Dallas and Ethel (Key) Hassler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Hassler; and an infant sister, Linda Hassler.

He was a timber worker and was retired from Norwalk in Cookeville. He attended Muddy Pond Independent Baptist Church.

Survivors include 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Billy and Carolyn Hassler of Clarkrange and David Hassler of Monterey; 4 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Peggy and Ridley Blaylock of Monterey, Marilyn Murphy and Brenda and Paul Bilbrey, all of the Love Joy Community, and Jennie Dishman of Livingston; and a host of nephews and nieces.

His nephews served as pallbearers.

Burial was in Weeks Cemetery in Muddy Pond.
