BURIED AT: SECTION M SITE 4463.
In the battlefield interment record, there are 4 Unknowns listed before Pvt Work and 3 Unknowns listed after him (M-4464 to M-4467 and L-3250 to L-3252). They were buried in front of the breastworks north of Clay's house. According to Tony Cossean, "Work was severely wounded in the leg 7/21/64 at atlanta, Ga.,and the limb was amputated." This indicates that these were hospital burials.
Re-interred to National Cemetery. Grave originally numbered: Work (K-376), K-377, K-378, K-379.
Notes from one who removed the bodies to the National Cemetery:
3 miles E of Atlanta in an old field on Clay's land 1 mile south of the RR track & 400 south of Clay's house.
25 yds north of the above in same field: L-1, L-2, L-3.
Also, 100 yds south of the above D-846 Unknown.
And, 50 yds south of the above in rear of the breastworks under a Post Oak tree: D-847 Unknown.
