Wife of DuWayne Altman.
Daughter of Wilbur & Patsy Dew.
Debra was a native of Dade City.
She majored in Early Childhood Education at the University of Florida, and it was there she joined the US Coast Guard Reserve.
Debra began her law enforcement career with the Arlington County Police Department in 1983, and became the first female motorcycle officer in Virginia.
Her ongoing service to the US Coast Guard Reserve afforded her the opportunity to serve as a Patrol Boat Coxswain, patroling the Potomac River for law enforcement in the 1980's. Her varied duties in the boat division of Port Security Unit 305 took her to Turkey and Panama.
Metastic cancer forced Debra's early retirement in 1999, with the rank of Sergeant.
Debra was a Girl Scout Troop Leader throughout the years she lived in Florida and Virginia.
After moving back to her hometown, she became an active member and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church.
Despite six years of aggressive cancer therapy, Debra's nine year battle with breast cancer came to an end peacefully in the historic Dade City home of her grandmother's.
