Obituary in Warren Sheaf, 15 Dec 1948: Military funeral services for S/Sgt. Eric Antonson were conducted at the Quanrud Chapel on Monday afternoon by Rev. W. A. Fleagle. Music was furnished by a male quartette. Pall bearers were Nels Freng, John P. Engelstad, Donald Willey, Robert Friebohle, L. A. Miller, and H. L. Charboneau, all Legionnaires. Interment in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery. Eric Antonson was born to Mrs. Birger Antonson in Bemidji on December 17, 1911 and moved with his parents to Thief River Falls in 1916. The parents moved to a farm northeast of Warren about three years ago. Although their son had lived and worked in this community for sveral years, Eric entered the service of his country from Kittson County in March 1942 and received his training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and Camp Hood, Texas. He went overseas in December 1942 and landed in North Africa late in January, 1943. He served in the African campaign, Tunisia, Sicily, Salerno, and was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, December 12, 1944. He served with General Patton's 3rd Army. Eric is mourned by his parents and sister(s), besides a host of other relatives and friends.

SSgt Antonson served with Company C, 776th Tank Destroyer Battalion. God bless, SSgt Antonson. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Service Time: Eric entered the service in March of 1942 and received his basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was transferred into the 776th Tank Destroyer Battalion and received additional training at Camp Hood, Texas. He shipped overseas in De...(Read more)
