Woburn Airman Listed As Missing in Action

Woburn July 25-Tech. Sgt. Joseph F. Griffin, son of Mrs. Josephine Griffin, has been reported missing in a War Department notification to his mother. He was a gunner on a Flying Fortress.
On June 13, while returning from a raid on the Kiel canal, the bomber was forced into the North Sea when attacked by German planes. Rescued by a British destroyer, the bomber crew was returned to England and hospitalized. After returning to action. Griffin participated in a raid on Hamburg, German, and this time the bomber did not return.
A graduate of Woburn High School, he was employed in the Strand Theater and was well known as a baseball player. He has two brothers in the armed services, John, a warrant officer in the Navy and Stephen, in the Army.
