Civil War Union Army Officer. He served in the Civil War as an officer in Company H, 28th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, rising from Lieutenant to Captain and company commander. During the Campaign to capture Atlanta, Georgia served as Adjutant on the staff of Major General George H. Geary, who had been the original Colonel of the 28th Pennsylvania when it was recruited. Captain Elliott was mortally wounded at the Battle of Peachtree Creek, Georgia while attempting to rally retreating Union troops.
