Philippine Insurrection Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. McGrath served as a Captain, 4th United States Cavalry. He was awarded his medal posthumously for service at Calamba, Luzon, Philippine Islands, July 26, 1899, during the Philippine Insurrection. His citation reads-Swam the San Juan River in the face of the enemy's fire and drove him from his entrenchments.  (bio by: K)
