Beloved husband of Anna. Dear father of John (Carma) and Sharon Bowen. Loving grandfather of 5 and great grandfather of 7. Brother of Marion Knopp. Joan Bayerlein and the late Harvin and Jean. He was a Michigan resident for 45 years. He was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and was an accomplished swimmer and cheerleader during his high school days. After graduating he ventured out into the world. Traveling by box car to New York was only the start of his adventures. Since this was not exciting enough, he joined the military. While in the Coast Guard, where he served for 27 years and was in 3 wars, he became a chief warrant officer traveling to such destinations as New Zeeland, the Antartic and the South and North Poles. Admiral Byrd joined him to perform research and Walt Disney was a passenger to film a documenntary on penquins. When Roy was not serving on a ship (Northwind, Mariposa, Mackinaw and Bramble), he lived in 17 different locations from the east coast to the west coast and numerous locations around the Great Lakes. In fact, how many people can say that they lived in Sheboygan with a "S" and Cheboygan with a "C". The latter part of his career was spent in Michigan Inspection Operations. Since the man could not stay still after retirement, he was employed by Travelers Insurance Company within Casualty Property Engineering Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Masons. Roy's interests included hunting, camping, fishing, tinkering with everything and anything, reading non-fiction books, historical books, not so neat cooking, woodworking, inventing and helping others. He loved children and animals. His whole being exuded strength, love and integrity. He would do anything for anyone, but most important to him was his family. He was best of buddies with Gizmo, his grand dog.
