Graveside services for Lt. Com. Floyd Richard Jordan, 80, of Pascagoula, MS, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, in the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Miss., with the Rev. Kelley Pope officiating. Services will be under the direction of the O'Bryant-Keefe Funeral Home of Pascagoula, Miss. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, May 12, in the funeral home.

Mr. Jordan died Thursday, May 9, in Pascagoula, MS. Mr. Jordan was born March 15, 1922, in Leesville, La.

He enlisted in the Navy in July of 1940 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese air raid on December 7, 1941. Following that, he was assigned aboard the USS Lexington, and survived the sinking of that ship in the Battle of the Coral Sea during May 1942. In 1945, Jordan was assigned to the USS Fallon, an assault transport, where he saw action in the Iwo Jima invasion. The Fallon was one of the first ships to occupy Japan when troops landed at Sasebo, Japan, and also participated in the atomic bomb testing in Bikini Atoll. He was aboard the USS Skagite in 1947 when he and the crew helped evacuate the United States personnel and supplies from China prior to the Communist takeover in 1948. He was aboard the USS Seminole that participated in a re-supply expedition to Pt. Barrow, Alaska, and action in Korea in 1950. Lt. Commander Jordan was first commissioned in 1959 and was assigned duty aboard the USS Thomaston. He was assigned to the USS Dubuque in 1968 in Vietnam before retired from the military in 1970.

Mr. Jordan has been a resident of Pascagoula since 1970. He also retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Coronado, Calif., and of the Masonic Lodge where he was a Grand Mason. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association of the United States Navy Institute and the Smithsonian Institute.

The Lt. Com. received numerous awards in his lifetime they include, Navy Good Conduct Medal (five stars); Asiatic Pacific Theater (five stars, one silver, two bronze); Japan Occupation; China Operations; Korean War (four stars); Presidential Unit Citation (Korea); United Nations (Korea); Vietnam Operations (four stars); Korean Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and the Navy Commendation Medal.

He was preceded in death by is first wife, Helen Sweigert Jordan; infant son, David Allen Jordan, a daughter, Judith Elizabeth McCorkle; his parents, Allen Augustus and Susan Catherine Jordan, sisters, Valerie Borders and Mary Lee Vickers, brothers, Hubert Jordan and Leroy Jordan. Survivors include his wife, Joanne Gay Jordan of Pascagoula, MS, one son, William J. "Bill" Jordan of Pascagoula, MS, one granddaughter, Wendy Ann Beemon of Ocean Springs, Miss., and numerous nieces and nephews.
