Henry B. Ciske Jr., 72, a resident of Sterling Heights since 1971, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, in his home. He was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Detroit.
Mr. Ciske retired in 1992 after more than 30 years as vice president of Manufacturers Bank.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He loved fishing, golfing, boating, woodcarving, barbecuing, reading, spending time with his family, playing backgammon daily and traveling. He enjoyed taking a family trip for 18 years to the great Oscoda area.
He also was an avid World War II historian and an Eagle Scout. His family said he touched the hearts in service to many charitable causes.
Mr. Ciske is survived by is wife, Joan Ciske; children, Cheryl Ciske, Susan (Mark) Grobosky, Paul (Karen) Ciske and Linda (Ed) Harrison; grandchildren, Megan, Claire, Mike, Eddie, Danny, Timmy, Will and Mary Kate; and brothers, David Lewis and Kurt (Kathleen) Ciske.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Utica United Methodist Church, 8650 Canal Road (between Schoenherr and Van Dyke), Sterling Heights, with the Rev. William Donahue, pastor, officiating.
Celebration of life visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (three blocks east of Van Dyke), Utica.
Memorial contributions may be addressed to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center, Habitat for Humanity and Utica United Methodist Church.
