"BURBANK -- Merle E. "Spanky" Gray, 71, of West Easton Road, died Sunday, Jan 3, at his residence after a period of declining health.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Canaan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Geoffrey Oswald officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.

He was born in 1921 in West Salem to Carl and Jessie (Bair) Gray and married Marceline Dunn on Jan 25, 1942. She survives.
He was a graduate of Burbank High School and was a U. S. Coast Guard veteran, serving in World War II from 1942-45. He retired after 30 years of service from Ohio Injector in Wadsworth and was engaged in dairy farming.
He was a member of the Aukerman Church of God and had attended the Canaan United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Ohio Holstein Association, the Sterling Knights of Pythias, Creston American Legion Post No. 497 and was an avid bowler, hunter, and fisherman. He was also a horseshoe thrower enthusiast.
Surviving in addition to his wife are six children, Robert of Burbank, William of Wallace, W. Va., Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Davenstott of West Salem, Mrs. Greg (Barbara) Corp and Kenneth, both of Creston and Mrs. Kevan (Deborah) Davis of Mount Vernon, 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three brothers, Richard of Cary, N. C., Ray of Mobile, Ala. and Elwin of Umatilla, Ore, three sisters, Alpha Emig of Bethany, Okla., Mrs. William (Iona) Stigler, of Wadsworth and Janet Gray of Wooster, and nieces and nephews.
One sister, Pauline Ramsier, died previously."
