|Birth: ||Jan. 12, 1861, Germany|
|Death: ||Apr. 21, 1937|
John Wollesen, son of Hans and Maria Wollesen, was born in Germany Jan 12, 1861 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marie Weitzel, April 21, 1936, aged 75 years, 3 months, and 9 days.
He came with his parents to America in 1870 and located at Belle Plaine, Iowa and in 1875 moved to Westside, later moving to the farm west of Lake View.
Mr Wollesen spent some time working in Missouri and while there met and married Miss Theresa Bischoff, on March 12, 1887. The same spring they came to their Sac County home, making the trip in a covered wagon. Through hard work and thrift they prospered and in February 1918 were able to erect a new set of buildings on the 40, 1/4 mile west of Lake View where they spent their declining years. Here their 48 years of happy married life closed with the death of Mrs Wollesen Dec 26, 1935. After the death of his wife, Mr Wollesen made his home with his daughter and here he quietly passed away.
Mr and Mrs Wollesen were the parents of 8 children: Marie, Edward, Harry, and Carl; Franklin and a child died in infancy; Mrs Irene Anderson died in 1919, and Mrs Catherine Klindt in 1926.
Mr Wollesen was a man of great size and strength and found opportunity to use his strength in his chosen vocation. During his life he was interested in all movements for the good of the community. On account of difficulty of hearing, he was not able to take part in civic activities as he would otherwise have done. In the death of Mr Wollesen the community loses a man of strict honesty, unquestionable integrity, and upstanding manliness.
