John was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Alex and LaVerne McDonald, and has lived in Waco all of his life. He married Eva Samaniego on April 3, 1976, in Waco, and they lived a happy life together. John was very handy with his hands and could figure out and repair anything, no matter how difficult. He began his career in the remodeling business operating his own company, McDonald Construction Co., and he then worked 10 years as a maintenance technician at Hillcrest Hospital. For the past 11 years, he has been employed at Whataburger Inc., where he had most recently achieved the position of Project Manager.
John thrived on any type of outdoor activity, especially golfing which he enjoyed as much as he could at the Lake Waco Country Club where he was a member. He was also talented in softball, fishing, camping, and bowling. John loved people, and his kindness and gentleness touched everyone who knew and cherished him. He was an avid Nascar fan, especially cheering for the late Dale Earnhardt. He was devoted to his family and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He left us way too soon, and we will all miss him dearly.
He leaves behind his wife, Eva; son, John McDonald, Jr. and wife, Melisa, of China Spring; daughter, Dana Marie McDonald, of Waco; grandchildren, McKenzie McDonald and John McDonald, III; brothers, Jimmy McDonald and wife, Vivian, of Wimberly, Jerry McDonald and wife, Charlotte, of Waco, and Larry McDonald and wife, Lou, of Gatesville; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
