Sammy Wayne Escalante Jr., 23, of Waco ,passed away Thursday, July 12, 2007. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Sergio Lopez as celebrant. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Brazos Funeral Home.
Sammy was born in Waco, Texas, to Sam Wayne Escalante, Sr. and Francisca (Colunga) Escalante. He graduated from University High School and was employed at Wal-Mart as a produce stocker. Sammy will be remembered for his friendly easygoing manner and always willing to help. He was a soccer fan, enjoyed many trips to Mexico, as well as Rock and Tejano music and had purchased an accordion to learn to play. As a young boy he liked to fish. Sammy was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Waco.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; and maternal grandfather.
He is survived by his parents; sisters, Sylvia Lorena Pina and husband, Gustavo, of Robinson, and Stephanie Escalante, of Waco; nieces, Sylvia, Yulissa and Rocio; as well as many friends.
