Actor. He appeared in motion pictures and television since the early 1970s, beginning his career as a youth. After performing in local theatre, he made his big screen debut at the age of sixteen in the critically acclaimed Peter Bogdanovich film "The Last Picture Show" (1971). Bottoms is probably best known for his role as Lance Johnson in Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" (1979). Among his other film credits are "Class of '44" (1973), "The Outlaw Josey Wales" (1976), "Bronco Billy" (1980) and "Gardens of Stone" (1987). His television credits include "Marcus Welby, M.D.", "21 Jump Street", "Murder, She Wrote", "The X Files" and "NYPD Blue". He was the brother of actors Timothy Bottoms, Joseph Bottoms and Ben Bottoms. He died from brain cancer. (bio by: C.S.)

Sam, I've read that some critics think you most memorable performance was as the surfer/soldier in Coppola's film of the Vietnam war, but I was most impressed with your role opposite Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josie Wales. I thought you stole the film....(Read more)|
